Job description

Main Role

The main function of the Human Resources (HR) Intern is to assist Country HR & Operations Manager and Support Team with various generalist HR responsibilities. The HR Intern will gain exposure to the entire employment life cycle including, but not limited to, recruitment and selection; performance management; labour relations; compensation, benefits, and reward; organisational design; employee wellness and succession planning. As this is an internship position, applicants should have less than 1 year’s working experience. In line with our Employment Equity commitments, candidates from designated groups are preferred.


The position is a non-paid and full-time Internship, however the Intern must have enough time set aside, during the working hours of 08:00-17:00 Monday to Friday.


The Internship with be for 6 months and expected to be started in February – April 2024. It is possible to extend for the next assignment upon the positive performance of the Intern.


Logistical and financial arrangements

SNV will not provide any fee and allowance to the Intern.


The Intern will be responsible for:

  1. Their own Accommodation.
  2. Adequate medical health, life and accident insurance coverage.


SNV will be responsible for:

  1. The facilitation of office space.
  2. A computer for the internship duration, if necessary.
  3. Photocopies and printing of materials related to the assignment
  4. A contract with the Intern explaining tasks and responsibilities
  5. Provide coaching, feedback and advice to the Interns before, during and after the assignment.
  6. Provide a certificate after the completion of the internship

Responsibilities

HR Intern Job Responsibilities and Duties


1. On-boarding and Terminations

  • Assist with the administration of new joiners and leavers
  • Set up meetings with service providers for new joiners
  • Scheduling external and internal training/workshops
  • Schedule information sessions
  • Preparing the welcome folders
  • Updating employee files, with necessary documents, i.e. signed employee contracts, medical aid forms, etc.
  • Assist with ensuring the signing and filing of policy documents


2. Recruitment

  • Loading CVs onto the Intranet
  • Updating and maintaining Candidates folder on the Intranet
  • Updating and maintaining physical Candidates files.
  • Scheduling interviews and meetings
  • HR employee filing, which includes maintaining electronic and physical employee files
  • Create purchase orders and new vendors
  • Assist with training and development process, i.e. source training providers, scheduling external and internal training/workshops, etc.
  • Offer general administrative assistance to HR team
  • And any other duties, as assigned by the HR Manager or HR Officers, in line with the role
